How typing results are calculated
English and other alphabetic languages use WPM: five correct characters equal one word. Chinese, Japanese and Korean use correct characters per minute. Accuracy includes mistakes you later correct. Spaces and punctuation must match.

Does pausing affect the timer?
Solo timing starts with the first committed character. Pauses and time spent in a hidden tab are excluded.
